The Standish Township Board would like to share several important updates and upcoming events with our community.
Mosquito Control Program
Standish Township has partnered with APM Mosquito Control to provide mosquito control services in 2026 at no cost to residents and property owners. The Township will cover the $66,050 cost for this year so the community can experience the program and its benefits firsthand. A proposal to continue the program for an additional four years will appear on the November ballot this fall. If approved by voters, the program would be funded through a 1.0000 mill property tax levy. More information about the program, including opt-out instructions, is included in this mailer.
Dumpster Day
Standish Township is hosting a community Dumpster & Recycling Day for residents and property owners on May 30, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Township Hall (4997 Arenac State Road). Residents are welcome to bring acceptable household items for disposal. The Township is partnering with the Arenac Conservation District to also provide recycling services during the event. Please note that some materials are not accepted and certain items may require a small fee. A full list of accepted items and fees is included below.
Items not allowed in Township-provided dumpster
No paint, chemicals, batteries, tires, refrigerators, freezers or air conditioners are allowed. No yard waste or hazardous materials are allowed.
Items that can be recycled through Arenac Conservation District and associated costs:
• Cardboard – Free
• Glass – Free (must be clean)
• Printer Cartridges – Free (bring them in the box they came in)
• Latex paints and stains (cost of $2.00 per gallon or $1.00 for smaller containers)
• Electronics – Free (Telephones and answering machines, cameras, radios, game controllers, calculators, power tools, pinball machines, microwaves, video game consoles, fax machines, PCs and laptops, tablets and cellphones, vacuums, walkie talkies, and computer mice.)
• Electronics with a charge
– LCD/LED TV’s $5.00 each
– CRT TV’s $5.00 each
– CRT Monitors $5.00 each
– Large flat screen TV’s $5.00 each
– The first TV or monitor is $5.00, additional TV’s or monitors are $10.00 each.
