The Arenac Conservation District has announced several free community programs and activities for residents of all ages this summer.
Free Family Fishing Day – June 6, 2026
Join the Conservation District from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Oasis Lake in Sterling for a fun day of fishing, environmental education, games, and outdoor activities. Fishing poles and bait will be provided, lunch is included while supplies last, and participants can enter giveaways for fishing gear. Open to youth and adults. Registration is required.
Summer with the District Activities
Free make-and-take conservation projects will be held at the Arenac Conservation District office (4490 W. M-61, Standish):
June 11 – Spotted Lanternfly Kits
July 9 – Natural Dyes
August 13 – Recycled Rain Gauges
2026 Conservation Photo Contest
Youth and adult photographers are invited to submit entries through October 1, 2026. Categories include Conservation Practices, Close-Up Conservation, Conservation in Action, and Agriculture & Conservation Across America. Winning photos will be recognized at the District’s Annual Meeting and featured on the Conservation District website.
Recycling Services Available
The Arenac Conservation District continues to offer recycling opportunities for cardboard, glass, electronics, and latex paint through various drop-off locations throughout Arenac County.
